All Your Perfects is the engrossing story of a troubled marriage and the one promise that might be able to save it.

Quinn and Graham meet under horrid circumstances. They find themselves in the hallway outside her fiancee’s apartment in which her fiancee is in the act of cheating with Graham’s girlfriend. As they wait for the cheaters to emerge, they commiserate over the Chinese food her fiancee ordered. It’s his usual order . . . for Quinn. The fortune contained in the cookie? “If you only shine light on your flaws, all your perfects will dim.”

Months later, Quinn finally gives in to her feelings and embarks upon a relationship with Graham. It is clear that they are meant to be together. But they struggle with infertility and it takes a toll on their union, threatening to derail their marriage.

Author Colleen Hoover approaches the subject with compassion and unflinching insight. As Quinn and Graham’s determined battle to become parents continues, they grow increasingly isolated and estranged from each other. Although the story is told from Quinn’s perspective, Hoover also credibly conveys the disappointment and frustration Graham experiences. The result is a heartbreaking story of two people who are so entrenched in their own sorrow that they are unable to reach to the one person in the world who can truly understand their feelings . . . and lend unconditional support and comfort.

It is not until the couple’s situation reaches a breaking point that they turn to the promise they made each other at the beginning of their marriage. Because within that promise lies the answer to the question they can no longer evade: Can their marriage survive? In order to remain together, they will have to acknowledge their disappointments, forgive each other, and accept that their future will be very different from the way they originally envisioned it.

Hoover’s ability to convey her deeply flawed characters’ emotional struggles and evoke empathy for them is simply mesmerizing in its depth and straight-forward honesty. Sans plot contrivances, Hoover pulls readers into the painful journey of Quinn and Graham, realistically depicting her characters’ individual descents into despair. In the process, she inspires readers to ponder their own reactions when life delivers disappointment. Hoover delivers a believable resolution to her tale that readers will find deeply satisfying.

All Your Perfects is a nearly perfect story.
